The Firefighter Training and Certification Program meets all state requirements to become a State Certified Firefighter. The program runs approximately seven months and classes are held three days per week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and daytime Saturdays.
Upon successful completion of the training program, and passing the State written and practical exams, you will be eligible for a Certificate of Compliance, per Florida Statue 633.34. The Certificate of Compliance is the required certification to work in Florida as a paid Firefighter.
This course requires a dedicated effort from the student in classroom studies, practical activities, and physical agility to reach the high standards that are required to pass the State exams. Written exams and practical evaluations follow each unit of study. Additionally, there is a physical conditioning program that is designed to improve your overall performance in the practical evolution exercises. Physical conditioning for the class will be specified during the night class orientation. Students will be assessed for physical capabilities throughout the program.
The program is designed in two phases. Students accepted in Phase I (FFP 0141C First Responder & Firefighter Awareness & FFP 0010C Firefighter I) will be expected to complete both Phase I & II. If a student has previously been awarded a Firefighter I certification, upon acceptance into Edison programs, they will be able to enter Phase II, the Firefighter II Program (FFP 0020C Firefighter II)
The Firefighter I & II certificate is a limited admission program. The application can be downloaded at below - this program has limited enrollment and is based on completed applications received during specified periods.
Estimated Program Cost:
- First Semester (FFP 0041C and FFP 0010C)
- In State $1525.00
- Out of State $ 3175.00
- Second Semester (FFP 0020C)
- In State $ 1205.00
- Out of State $ 2725.00
