Guidance and Assessments
Learning about your personality, interests, skills and values is important when making a career decision. Harvey MacKay said “Find something you love to do and you'll never have to work a day in your life.” To learn more about yourself so you can make an informed career choice that is rewarding and enjoyable, visit your campus career services. Make an appointment with a career specialist, and take some of the following assessments:
Personality type assessment – Do you get excited about interacting with people or do you prefer the inner world of ideas and reflection? Do you like a flexible or structured work environment? Are you realistic or imaginative? We all have a unique approach to the world and to our relationships. Personality type assessments can help you discover the types of careers that you may enjoy based on your personality preferences.
Interest inventory – What careers do you prefer based on your interests? An Interest Inventory can suggest careers you may wish to explore based on your likes and dislikes of various activities.
Work values inventory – Values are an important part of your career decision. Some people that are unhappy in their jobs say it is because of the people they work with. This is usually a conflict with one of their values. Taking a work values inventory can help you clarify what is important to you and help you plan a more satisfying career.
Florida CHOICES – Florida CHOICES is a career exploration and information website designed for Florida students. There are several excellent assessments on this site that will help you gather information about yourself and careers. Jump in and take some assessments.
Type Focus - Is your career on target? See your campus career counselor to register you as a 'new user' of Type Focus.
Visit your local campus career services and make an appointment with a career specialist to learn more about assessments available at each campus.
Resume and Interview assistance
A well written, high impact resume is an important tool in helping you reach your goals. Sometimes you have as little as 10 seconds to get the attention of an employer. You need to share your skills and accomplishments and be sure that your potential employer knows about your ability to do the job. Getting “good news” into your resume and “success stories” into your interviews can make all the difference in getting your “foot in the door” toward a great career.
