When we talk to God, we're praying.  When God talks to us, we're schizophrenic.
  ~Jane Wagner

Edison State College's Theatre program presents Larry Larson & Levi Lee's hilarious and irreverent comedy Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati) directed by Stuart Brown.

The play is set in a bombed-out church in some not-so-distant future. The Reverend Eddie, a pill-popping evangelist, prepares his final sermon, while battling the paranoid, hallucinatory whispering of his arch enemies, the Illuminati.

Reverend Eddie's hilarious monastic rants veer from pugilism to petulance all the while oddly familiar as echoes of contemporary, rabid cable television pundits. Providing a foil to the paranoid, egotistical, Reverend Eddie, is the ever credulous Brother Lawrence, a childlike, sweet-tempered, hunchback formed in the twisted mold of Quasimodo.

The play launches a fulsome assault on misguided religiosity and offers a mirthful but potent warning about the dangers of faith gone wrong.

The play will be at Edison State College Black Box Theatre (L-119b), 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
Tickets can be purchased on Brownpapertickets.com

Good

“A dream of reason produces monsters” --Goya

What makes us happy can’t be bad. Can it?

That’s the question Edison State College Theatre’s play Good poses to theatre-goers in a sophisticated mix of humor, music and drama. Centered around bookish professor, John Halder, during the rise of the Nazi Party in pre-World War II Germany, Good examines how a series of small, expedient decisions can lead to things terrible and totally unimaginable. Halder’s journey from simple man to villain is a poignant, witty, and sometimes surreal expedition into ethical marshes that begs the question: what is good? And how can good men do evil things?

Good runs March 18th-21st, and 25th- 28th at Edison State College, in L119 B in the Humanities Hall. Curtain is at 8pm, tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students. For tickets, call the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Center at 239-481-4849 or tickets@bbmannpah.com. Due to adult language, those under 17 years of age will not be admitted.

For more information about Edison State College Theatre, please contact Stuart Brown at Edison State College (239) 433-8007.
