What is the difference between a drop and a withdrawal?

When a student drops a class, a refund is issued and the course is removed from academic history. A withdrawal is when no money is refunded and a grade of W is assigned for the course.
Please note, all drops and withdrawals must be completed by the dates outlined in the academic calendar.
