African Americans have been an integral part of Charlotte County from its earliest days. African American Civil War verterans homesteaded in Charlotte Harbor. Seven of the first 15 men to settle in Punta Gorda were African American. We'll discuss the ways African Americans contributed to the settlement and development of this area.
