Noises Off brings laughter to Edison State stage
PUNTA GORDA – The internationally acclaimed English comedy Noises Off will grace the stage of Edison State College Charlotte Campus for three nights beginning Nov. 20.
The hysterical comedy about what really goes on behind the scenes of a play serves as the annual Fall production of Edison’s Charlotte chapter of Delta Psi Omega (DPO). Performances include 7:30 p.m. shows on Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 followed by a 2:30 p.m. show on Sunday, Nov. 22.
“Our theatre department always does such a wonderful job with its productions. The students are just so passionate and talented; it’s really inspiring to watch,” Charlotte Campus President Dr. Patricia Land said. “I’m looking forward to hearing the auditorium filled with laughter.”
Originally written in 1982 by Michael Frayn, Noises Off has enjoyed widespread success on both sides of the Atlantic. It was nominated for a Tony Award after its last tour of Broadway in 2001 and was adapted for the silver screen in 1992 with Carol Burnett and Michael Caine among the cast.
Tickets for Noises Off are $10 for adults and $8 for students with reserved seating for all performances. Tickets can be purchased online at www.edison.edu/charlotte/theatre, via phone at 941-637-3513 or from the cashier located in Spatz Hall on the Charlotte campus, 26300 Airport Road, Punta. Wheelchair seating only available via phone.
“It’s been exciting for me to watch our students develop these wonderfully eccentric characters and put their own unique signature on this production,” Charlotte Campus Director of Theatre Sherie Ragan said. “It’s going to be so much fun sharing the finished product with the community.”
Delta Psi Omega Theatre Fraternity
Delta Psi Omega was organized in 1929 to provide an honor society for those doing a high standard of work in dramatics and a wider fellowship for those interested in college theatre.
As Edison State College's local chapter, Delta Psi Omega strives to encourage theatrical activity on campus and throughout the community and is open to all students interested in college theatre.
Delta Psi Omega produces two mainstage productions each academic season - a Fall Show and a Spring Musical. In 1999 DPO produced its first summer production.
In addition to fostering theatre on campus and providing fellowship for students interested in theatre, DPO sends eligible members to the Florida Theatre Conference to audition for summer jobs in the theatre. DPO also offers a theatre scholarship to graduating high school seniors. Auditions are held in April and are open to all seniors intending to major in theatre.
