Office of Counseling / Ombudsman

Students experience a great many stresses in their lives-sorting out one’s identify, establishing and maintaining relationships, coping with anxiety and depression , dealing with losses, handling academic demands and financial issues.  To help with these tasks, ESC Counseling office provides a variety of free and confidential services including consultation, on campus short term counseling and off campus outreach programs that are designed to help students overcome challenges that occur while trying to meet their intellectual, interpersonal and developmental goals.  Personal counseling is a chance for the student to learn how to be more capable at resolving personal and/or academic issues

Our Mission:

The mission of the Ombudsman is to provide to all college constituencies an accessible, independent, impartial and confidential resource for the expeditious resolution of problems. The Ombudsman serves in this capacity not as an advocate for individuals or the institution, but as an advocate for fairness of outcomes. In seeking to prevent problems as well as respond to them, the Ombudsman acts as an agent of change by continuously evaluating established processes and procedures intended to address issues pertaining to student satisfaction, programs and services.

Transfer Services

Students who plan to transfer to an upper level college or university program are encouraged to consult with an Academic Advising Specialist or Counselor concerning transfer requirements. Students also should obtain a catalog and a list of the requirements from the institution that they expect to attend. Students anticipating transfer should begin a preliminary application to the college or their choice in the fall session of the sophomore year.

Students planning to stay in the Southwest Florida region while pursuing a bachelor's degree are encouraged to explore opportunities offered through the Edison University Center. The Edison University Center at Edison State College partners with several colleges and universities to make it easier to remain in the area and complete a bachelor's degree. All degree programs can be completed entirely through distance learning or on an Edison State College campus. Partnerships are formed to offer some type of benefit to those who have attended Edison State College. This may be in the form of tuition scholarships or improved transfer of credits.

The College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) requirement must be met to earn an A.A. degree. Students should see an Academic Advising Specialist for either registration information or a CLAST exemption.
