What does it take to be a successful eLearning student?

While almost anyone can enroll in eLearning Courses, it takes a particular kind of person to succeed in this non-traditional learning process.  Based on a recent survey of telecourse completers and non-completers, we learned that successful eLearning students.
  • Are self-motivated and work independently
  • Understand the difference between eLearning and classroom-based courses
  • Make an informed decision to enroll in eLearning courses and register early
  • Read the course syllabus completely before the first on-campus meeting
  • Attend the required on-campus meetings
  • Schedule a specific time each week to view programs and/or visit the course website
  • Make contact with the instructor, either by phone, e-mail, or in person
  • Complete assignments correctly and submit them on time
  • Never miss telelesson broadcasts and/or online sessions
  • Take clear concise notes
  • Attend and ask specific questions during the on-campus meetings
  • Take advantage of available college support services
  • Study from study guides, and textbooks, and/or Internet resources
  • Come prepared to take exams with scantrons, pencils, and photo identification

In short, successful eLearning Students have the ability to make an honest appraisal of their personal suitability for this mode of learning.  They choose eLearning courses for all the right reasons.  They avoid procrastination, and they demonstrate their commitment throughout the semester.  Are you ready to make this commitment?
