Alternative Certification
Interested in Becoming a Certified Teacher? Looking for a Career Change?
DO WE HAVE A PROGRAM FOR YOU!!!
The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) at Edison State College will help you attain this goal. This Accelerated Certification program exists to assist our local school districts by offering an opportunity for non-education majors who have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to become highly qualified teachers and to obtain professional state certification.
Due to the teacher shortage, the State of Florida has determined that there is a need for recruiting and training individuals who are interested in the teaching field. Our program prepares these individuals for entrance into the field by offering seven comprehensive courses in which our students demonstrate the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices through various activities including student teaching. Graduates from the program are eligible for a professional teaching certificate (provided they pass all state required exams). The program is offered at times that allow participants to continue their current lifestyles without interruption while attaining the education needed to make a career change.
The program consists of the following:
- Seven courses with field experience in actual classroom
- Florida State Certification Exam Preparation Courses
- Support Workshops
- Mentoring
