The Hendry/Glades celebration of Banned Books week will include a Banned Books Trivia Challenge: students answer the trivia questions placed in A-119, and return answer cards to the library (A-109). At the end of the week a drawing will be held. Three students who submitted correct answers will win a Banned Books Week tote bag filled with frequently challenged or banned books. To wrap up Banned Books week, the recent film adaptation of The Great Gatsby will be screened on September 27. The Great Gatsby is on the 100 most frequently Banned or Challenged List published by the American Library Association. Contact Librarian Arenthia Herren at for more information.
Banned Books Week is an annual event sponsored by the American Library Association celebrating the freedom to read. It highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings people together in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.
