Unit 5: Search Tools: The Online Catalog
Lesson 7: Search by Year
If you want to find materials published during a specific year, enter that year in the first “Year” search field. Years must be four digits long. To search by a range of years, for example, 1995 to 2005, enter 1995 in the “Year” search field, and 2005 in the “Year to” search field.
You also can locate materials published during a particular decade by entering the first three digits of a year followed by a question mark. To find materials published in the 1990s, for example, enter 199? in the “Year:” search field.
What is the advantage of selecting a year?
Limit your search by a specific year or range of years when you need to find historic information, works published during a specific time period, or certain versions or editions of a particular work.
