NOTE: In Microsoft Word 2007, the main file commands—New, Open, Save, and Print—are located in the circular Office Button at the top-left corner of the screen. All instructions involving the Office Button refer to the button pictured on the left
How do I start a NEW file?
- Click on the Office Button
- Click “New”
How do I SAVE a file?
- Click on the Office Button
- Click “Save As”
- Select a drive (file destination) from the drop-down menu
- To save to a USB Flash Drive, click on the USB Flash Drives section
- If you do not have a Flash Drive, go to the Student on “Spiff” Drive section
How do I OPEN a file?
- Click on the Office Button
- Click “Open”
- Select a drive (file destination) from the drop-down menu
- Click on the desired file
How do I DOUBLE-SPACE?
- Highlight the text you want to double-space
- Click on the “Home” tab
- In the Paragraph section, click on the “Line Spacing” button

- Click “Line Spacing Options”
- In the Spacing section, select “Double” from the “Line spacing” drop-down menu
- Click “OK”

OR
- Highlight all text
- Click on the “Home” tab
- In the Paragraph section, click on the arrow to open the Paragraph dialog box launcher
- Select Double from "Line spacing"
- Click “OK”

How do I adjust MARGINS?
- Click on the “Page Layout” tab
- In the Page Setup section, click on the “Margins” button
- Select a margin spacing option from the list
- Select “Normal” for 1 inch margins on all sides (required for MLA and APA)
How do I insert a HEADER?
- Click on the “Insert” tab
- In the Header & Footer section, click on the “Page Number” button
- Select “Top of Page”
- Click on “Plain Number 3” to insert a right-justified page number
How do I create a HANGING INDENT?
- Place the insertion point of your mouse anywhere in your citation
- Click on the “Home” tab
- In the Paragraph section, click on the arrow, shown in the image above, to open the Paragraph dialog box launcher
- Click on “Line Spacing Options”
- In the Indentation section, select “Hanging” from the “Special” drop-down menu
- In the By box enter 0.5
- Click “OK”

PowerPoint 2007
How do I PRINT 3 or 6 slides per page?
- Click on the Office Button at the top-left corner of the screen
- Click “Print”
- In the “Print what” section, select “Handouts” from the drop-down menu
- In the “Handouts” section, select a number of slides per page from the drop-down menu
- Click “OK”
- NOTE: Only the 3 slides per page option will provide note space on the right-hand side

How do I CREATE a PowerPoint Presentation?
- Go to the Computer Help Center located in Hendry Hall, Building K, Room 121, to learn how to create a presentation in PowerPoint
How do I INSERT a YouTube Video into My PowerPoint 2007 Presentation?
- Open PowerPoint 2007
- Click on the "Developer Tab"
- If the "Developer Tab" is not available follow the steps below:
- Click on the Office Button
- Select "PowerPoint Options" at the bottom right-hand side
- In the "Popular" section check-mark "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon"
- Click "OK"
- In the "Developer Tab"
- Click on the "More Controls" button
- Scroll down and select "Shockwave Flash Object"
- Click "OK"
- Click and Drag across the area you want to display the video
- Adjust to proper fit
- Right-click on the Box
- Select "Properties"
- Click "OK"
- Click and Drag across the area you want to display the video
- Adjust to proper fit
- Right-click on the Box
- Select "Properties"
- In Properties look for the section that says "Playing"
- Select "True" if you want to have the video play automatically
- In the section that says "Loop"
- Select "False" from the drop down

- Then go to the section that says "Movie"
- Paste in the YouTube URL of the video you want to show
- e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9B2hX6YgV0

- Remove the "watch?" portion of the URL
- Then replace the equals symbol "=" with the forward slash "/"
- e.g. http://www.youtube.com/v/m9B2hX6YgV0
- Click the Red "X" to close the Properties window.
- Preview your Slide Show to make sure it works.
NOTE: You must have an active internet connection in order for your YouTube video to work and play.
USB Flash Drives
What do I do if my USB Flash Drive is NOT WORKING?
- Save your work onto the Student on “Spiff” Drive or via e-mail
- Restart the computer with the USB Flash Drive still plugged in
- Be patient as Windows boots and attempts to install the device
- Seek assistance from a Library staff member if this does not work

- Insert the Flash Drive into a USB port on the computer, NOT the monitor
- After the Flash Drive installs, click on “My Computer”
- Double-click on the Removable Drives “E” or “F,” on which Flash Drives typically load
- Double-click on the desired file to Open

Internet Issues
How do I log onto Edison’s wireless access from my PC?
- Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located on the bottom-right of the start bar
- Select “View Available Wireless Networks”
- Select the “Student” network from the wireless networks list
- Click on the “Connect” button
How do I log onto Edison’s wireless access from my Mac?
- Click on the “AirPort Status” icon located next to the system clock

- Make sure AirPort is selected to “On”
- Click on the “Student” network
What do I do if I cannot log onto the Libraries’ DATABASES?
- Let’s first make sure you know how to log in. Select “Edison State College” from the drop-down menu. Enter your borrower ID and pin. Your borrower ID is the barcode number on the back of your student ID or Library card. The pin is the last four digits of your social security number.
- If you still cannot logon, take the following steps to clear the browser’s cache
How do I clear a browser’s CACHE?

- To determine what version your browser is Click “Help” and then “About [Browser Name]”

- Click the “Personal Stuff” tab
- Click “Clear browsing data”
- Select the “Empty the cache” & “Delete cookies” checkboxes.
- Use the “Clear data from this period” drop-down menu at the bottom of the window to select “Everything”
- Then Click the “Clear Browsing Data” button.
Internet Explorer 6 & 7
- Click on “Tools”
- Click on “Internet Options”
- Click “Delete Cookies” under the General tab
- Click “OK”

- Select the “Temporary Internet files” & “Cookies” checkboxes.

What do I do if I cannot log onto the PORTAL?
- From any Edison Web page, click on “myEdison Portal”
- Click on the “Forgot your password, locked your account, or first-time user?” link
- Enter the information requested
- Click on the button at the bottom of the screen
- If this does not work, call the toll-free IT Helpdesk at 1-866-818-4243, which is open 24/7

How do I ATTACH a file to an email in the Portal?
- Log into the Portal
- Click on the “Compose” link in the middle of the screen
- Click on the “Attach” button in the bottom-left corner of the screen
- Click on the “Browse” button
- Double-click on the file you want to attach
- Click on the “Attach” button
- Repeat steps 5 through 7 above to add more attachments to the message
- Click on the “Done” button when finished
- The attached documents are listed at the bottom of the Compose Email window
- Click on the “Send” button when you are ready to send your email
Student on “Spiff” Drive
WARNING: Files saved on the Student on “Spiff” Drive are accessible to all ESC public PC users. The S drive is only a temporary location to store files. Anyone who uses ESC public computers can delete your files, whether inadvertently or intentionally, and the files on the Spiff drive are regularly wiped clean. We recommend saving all files on a USB Flash Drive or other Removable Storage Device. You also may attach files to an email as back-up.
- Click on the Office Button at the top-left corner in any Office program screen
- Select “Save As”
- Click on the “My Computer” button
- Click on the Student on “Spiff” (S:) Drive
- Click on the “Create New Folder” icon to create
- Name the file
- Click "Save"
Print Instructions (Lee Campus)
- Buy a Reloadable Edison Print Card.
- Go to the card vending machine and press the one [1] on the keypad.
- Insert a one dollar bill [$1]. [No Change or Credit Cards are accepted]
- A 50 cent Reloadable card will be dispensed; refills with whole cash value.

- When ready to print, click the print icon
and a box will appear requesting a “User ID.”
- Enter a “User ID” unique to yourself, and click “Print.”
- For example your Edison Portal Username.

- To retrieve your print job(s), go to one of two print stations located near the reference desk. Place your print card into the card reader, which says "HELLO."

- After the card is inserted, enter the unique “User ID” you created above.
- Select your job(s), and click “Print Selected Jobs”
- If there are jobs you do not wish to print select them and click “Delete Selected Jobs.”
NOTE: Print jobs are automatically deleted from the central print program one hour after being sent.
