Edison State College “SEER PROJECT-2012”
Throughout history people have looked into the future and written about concepts that were not invented nor scientifically feasible. For example, in Jules Verne’s novel From Earth to the Moon, he wrote about space travel before man even flew in a plane. Flight for humans at the time was considered next to impossible since the gasoline engine had yet to be conceived. The steam engine was still in its infancy. Yet, Jules Verne a Frenchman wrote about the journey even predicting the location where the blast-off would occur in Florida. He also placed three men on the first journey and had them return and splash down in the ocean. Strangely familiar? The first three US Astronauts blasted off from Florida and upon return splashed down in the ocean to be picked up.
Still not convinced? Verne’s character Nemo, the captain of the Nautilus Submarine was able to travel under oceans for extended periods before the first submarines became reality. In his novel Mysterious Island, the coal supply is about to be exhausted and the new fuel is made from sea water by separating hydrogen from the oxygen. Verne as a seer was not alone. Other writers, like H. G. Wells, Aldous Huxley, and George Orwell were far ahead of scientific minds as indicated in their novels conceiving human cloning. This proves that an idea in mind manifests in time. Consequently, you don’t have to be a scientist or an engineer to conceive an idea or invention that will change our world forever.
The Edison Seer Project will give you an opportunity to imagine and record what your world will be like in 2025, 2050, or even 2100.
Interested in becoming a part of the Edison Seer Project? Pick one of the three times: 2025, 2050, or 2100 (Forms below). Each Edison Student, Faculty Member, Administrator or Staff can participate. You have until April 20th, to submit changes you foresee for 2025, 2050, or 2100. Limit your submissions to the three general areas listed below. You must submit your hard copy printed on and 8.5” by 11”. One page only because each copy will be hermetically sealed and scheduled to be opened the designated year. The Seer Project Capsules (unlike “Time Capsules” which are usually buried) will be placed on permanent display in the Rush Library (or transferred to a new campus Library) until the designated opening date.
You may drop your completed “Seer Project” off at the second floor desk in the Rush Library. Other campuses may mail their completed sheet to either:
