New College-wide Health and Wellness Program - Campus-wide Full-time Faculty & Staff

Greetings Faculty and Staff:

I am very pleased to share with you a new College-wide program centered on health and wellness. We all know that research has shown even small steps toward better nutrition and fitness reduce the health risks which later lead to chronic illness and increased health costs. The SACS Standard 3.11.2 states “The institution takes reasonable steps to provide a healthy, safe and secure environment for all members of the campus community”.

Last year, we took the first step in support of healthy living and wellness with the adoption of a tobacco-free environment on our campuses. Beginning this month, the College has partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida and our Florida College System health consortium to bring you additional resources and incentives to continue your own personal journey to good health. Edison’s new initiative, Be Aware – Be Healthy – Be Rewarded, is part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueRewards program which offers you a variety of easy to use and customizable trusted health and wellness resources and rewards you for your participation.

The kickoff for this program begins next week during the Wellness Fairs being held on the Charlotte, Lee and Collier campuses. By attending and participating in the Personal Health Assessment at the Fair, you will be eligible for incentive awards throughout the year. It doesn’t end there, however, and this is where we really need your participation. The College can earn $10,000 to be used for health and wellness initiatives if we have more than 50% participation in the Health Assessments. The CHALLENGE is on - we have learned that two other colleges have already earned the college incentive and we want to be right there with them!

I encourage you to register and attend one of the Fairs to Be Aware of your risks and the available resources, Be Healthy through a commitment to make small, healthy changes in your life, and Be Rewarded with personal incentives and to catapult Edison to the ranks of being a $10,000 winner! Human Resources will follow up with more information.

Thank you for joining this journey toward a healthier YOU and Edison State College.
