Why Live On-Campus?

Submitted 02/02/2012

Have you heard about LightHouse Commons? Seen the construction site? Walked by the model apartment in Taeni Hall? With all the excitement about the new facility, some may wonder what the perks of living on campus would be.

LightHouse Commons will provide a healthy, safe, interactive environment for students with an emphasis on community building. Organized social events and recreational activities will be ongoing throughout the semester making it easy and fun to meet other students and become involved in campus life. Workshops and tutoring will be available to all students in the residence hall, and you may choose to live in a specific wing dedicated to your major, for example Health Professions/Nursing students will have their own area to facilitate study groups and peer support. Higher GPA’s and higher graduation rates are associated with on campus living.

Each apartment is fully furnished, and students can choose from a two bedroom, two bathroom floor plan or a four bedroom, two bathroom style. There is a washer and dryer, full size refrigerator, and microwave in each unit as well as cable television and high speed Internet. Through individual housing agreements, each student has their own payment plan and is not affected by the other roommate’s financial situation, unlike a traditional apartment lease. There are no monthly bills to worry about; electric, water, and cable are all covered in the cost of the room. Additionally, with no commute, students will save time and gas money by living minutes away from class. Sleep late, you don’t even have to worry about parking! On campus living adds to the college experience by keeping it more fun and less stressful!
