Edison State College uses the Post Secondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) as its entry placement test. FCELPT is used to determine placement in English, mathematics, and reading courses. Assessment is considered an essential part of the college program.
- Placement Testing is required for all degree seeking students, certificate seeking students, high school students in Accelerated Programs and Veterans.
- Non-degree seeking students planning to take English, mathematics or foreign languages, must also be tested.
- Students must complete and turn in an application for admissions to the Office of the Registrar prior to testing. Processing time for applications is 24 hours.
- Students are required to take the Placement Test or submit a full set of ACT-E or SAT-R scores taken within the previous two years.
- Students that previously attended another college or university may also bring in an official or unofficial transcript for evaluation.
Students may get more information about testing requirements by contacting the Assessment Center on each campus and at the Hendry/Glades Center:

Specific Information for Transient Students:
-
Part of the approval process is obtaining a signature from your academic advisor and/or Registrar.
- It will not be necessary for you to go through Assessment & Testing because your home institution is approving the classes you are eligible to take.
Specific Information for high school students in Accelerated Programs:
- If you have never taken the ACT-E or SAT-R or if your scores are below college level, you will need to take the Placement Test (PERT). You will be able to retest once while still enrolled in high school.
- To stay enrolled in any of the accelerated programs (except early admissions), all of your test scores will need to be college level in all areas (English, Reading, and Math) by the time you have accumulated 12 credit hours.
