Kenneth P. Walker assumed the presidency July 1, 1991, following presidencies at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas and Oklahoma City Community College. He began his distinguished career in higher education as a Government Instructor after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He helped shape the lives of countless students through a variety of increasingly responsible positions ranging from Assistant Dean of Student Life to Dean of the College and Vice-President. In 1973, he received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
An active scholar, Dr. Walker has been published in numerous peer-review publications and is the co-editor of the book: “The Community College Baccalaureate Emerging Trends & Policy Issues.”
Dr. Walker chaired the Board of Trustees of the Thomas Edison and Henry Ford Winter Estates, Inc., during the recent successful historical restoration and renovation project; serves on the board of the Florida Council of 100; and is a member of the Downtown Fort Myers Rotary Club. Previous board service includes the Chamber of Southwest Florida, Business Development Corporation of Southwest Florida, Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Board of the Southwest Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.
At the May 4, 2007 Lee campus commencement ceremony, the Edison State College faculty presented Dr. Walker with a plaque engraved with the following:

Your many contributions to the success of our college over the years have been greatly appreciated. You have earned our utmost respect and gratitude.
Dr. Walker and his wife, Mary Jo, have five children and six grandchildren.
