The Single Parent Program is a grant-funded program with a mission to assist single pregnant women and single parents gain marketable skills and attain selfsufficiency through vocational training. The program is designed for students who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Enrolled in Associate in Science Degree or certificate program core courses
- Completed at least one semester at Edison Community College with a GPA of 2.0 or better
- Applied and eligible for a Pell Grant
- Have custody of minor child/children
Information and outreach services are extended to students concerning vocational education or employment opportunities in careers as skilled workers in technical fields and emerging occupations. The Coordinator is responsible for evaluating the student's eligibility and needs as well as providing direction for program choice, class selection and other services. These services may include tuition exemptions, textbook lending library, childcare scholarships and transportation reimbursement for qualified students enrolled in vocational core courses.
Workshops are offered every month, featuring speakers and resources for life management. Applications may be picked up at Q215 on the Lee campus and at LS101 on the Charlotte Campus.
